Girl of the snakes. The Tibetan tradition has taken over an Indian figure, guardian of treasures and in particular of knowledge. She can refer to a story from the Lotus Sutra where a Naga princess attains enlightenment.
Sexually tantalizing and devastatingly lovely, mermaids are perfect pinups for feminine (yin) power. This is quite nice, as mermaids also represent wild freedom, rebellious spirits and ferocious independence (they can never be contained and frequently avoid settling).
Suvannamaccha
The great Indian epic of Ramayana also developed in the Khmer regions creating kinds of syncretisms. Thus in Thailand and Cambodia exists in the Ramakien (Ramayana, the epic of Rama), an episode between Hanuman (the "monkey god") and Suvannamaccha, a "golden siren", princess of her state (which earned her jewels, high crowns and golden clothing). There are many representations of "Khmer" style in black and gold colors.
Mermaids symbolize distraction, deceit, deception, etc. They also have a sexual connotation and symbolize forbidden pleasure which leads into disaster. Mermaids don't appear often in dreams, but when they appear they usually have a bad meaning. They signify challenges and difficulties awaiting you.
